The Devonshire Arms

Best known for its large alfresco heated terrace, The Devonshire has much more going for it. For a start, the drinks list is impressive, with London Pride, Doom Bar & a guest ale on draught, four wheat beers, 11 lagers & plenty of wines & spirits. The food is reasonably well executed too. In summer the BBQ is regularly fired up, but the house tasting platter (served in the woody, high-ceilinged interior) makes for good snacking all year round & is filling enough for three to share: expect baked Camembert, calamari, hoummos, potato wedges & duck quesadilla. For children (welcome until 7pm) there are homemade fish fingers & burgers. The pub is staffed by cheery locals, who are pleased to recommend solid & liquid sustenance. Evenings get quite raucous, & the pub stages regular events, including a Sunday quiz & Tuesday wine club.
