Over the years Tbilisi has evolved from more of a cafe for expats into a surprisingly smart black & red restaurant showcasing Georgian cooking & wine. The food is typically rich, but you don’t need a bottomless pocket to feast in style here. Khachapuri, the soft, cheese-filled bread, & salads get things off to a cracking start & heart-warming beetroot soup is almost a meal in itself. Chanakhi, slow-cooked lamb with tomato & aubergine, & chicken satsivi enriched with walnuts, are top choices to follow. The bold Georgian wines on offer are designed to accompany the hearty food. A few more customers would help lift the atmosphere, but those yearning for something different to the norm should definitely keep Georgia in mind.
