This perennially popular ‘cheap eat’ venue attracts diners from afar, for south Indian vegetarian food that many rate as among the best of its kind in London. The bright, light-wood interior marks out Sagar from other low-cost Indians – as does the cooking. Starters (around £3) feature crispy lentil dumplings, traditional peppery rasam soup & puri (unleavened bread), & there’s a selection of spicy side dishes too. Stealing the show, however, is the dosa: a crispy crêpe-style dish arriving for main course with various spicy vegetable fillings. Alternatives include a large choice of vegetable curries, & the lunch deals (popular with local business folk) where you can enjoy a hefty eat-in feast for £5.75 or pick up a takeaway lunch box for just £3.50.
