Moomba Bar & Kitchen

Tucked away from the traffic & chain pubs of Putney High Street, this cosy little bar & restaurant has garnered a reputation with locals for casual, all-day dining & drinking. During the day, bag-laden shoppers & the buggy brigade congregate in the recently modernised dining room or at pavement tables for coffees, salads & sarnies. Come evening, there’s a more ambitious menu, though the cooking doesn’t quite deliver on its promises. Dishes such as fillet steak with gratin of wild mushrooms, warm Puy lentils & butternut squash salad or lamb burger stuffed with feta are satisfying enough, but lack the conviction of a truly competent kitchen. This might be forgivable if the pricing for mains was not in the mid-teens. Meanwhile, the well-meaning but unpolished service is better suited to the informal, daytime setup.
