The Trading House

More bar than restaurant, this Hatton Gardens institution could do with a minor refurb, even if its loyal supporters don’t seem to mind that it’s a bit scuffed around the edges. The gutsy food is in the casual, modern European mould. On any given day, you could get salmon fishcakes, balsamic-glazed rib-eye of beef with seasonal veg, Charolais sirloin with French fries, seafood risotto or tarte tatin. It’s at its best at night, when the bar is rocking & you can’t really see the dog-eared corners. Pint-sized & cramped, this is not a venue for large gatherings or quiet drinks, but a few outside tables ensure smokers don’t have to loiter in the street.
