Oysters are only one of the treats on offer at the Wright Brothers’ Oyster & Porter House – & what a treat: superb, plump, ultra-fresh specimens from all around the British Isles, including Cornwall, Ireland & Essex, are chalked-up on a blackboard. There’s also ‘unexpectedly good’ crab soup with coconut milk & lemongrass; beef, Guinness & oyster pie; razor clams mariniere or a ‘dreamy’ fish pie. The wine list is worthy of considered attention, & service is knowledgeable & friendly. Saturday lunchtimes can be a bit of a bunfight as Borough Market shoppers clamour for food, but otherwise the atmosphere is lively rather than hectic. A table near the open front puts you in pole position to watch the market’s ebb & flow.
