Square Meal review of The Dog & Duck:
A landmark boozer with plenty of authentic appeal: original glazed tiles, compact carved mahogany bar, marble fireplace & period advertising mirrors. It would still look mighty familiar to The Dog & Duck’s biggest fan, George Orwell, who went on an absinthe-fuelled bender here to celebrate Animal Farm’s publication in America (a gloriously bijou upstairs saloon is named in Orwell’s honour). These days regulars show more restraint when ordering Timothy Taylor Landlord from a cast of CAMRA pleasers. Sandwiches & sausages help soak up excess units.
