At first glance, The Porterhouse shouts ‘theme pub’, but don’t let the bottle-museum interior or branded merchandise put you off. Owned by independent Irish brewers, this Covent Garden juggernaut takes its mission very seriously. A mammoth range of hoppy goodness covers all styles: from fashionable Weissbier & Irish red beer to under-appreciated stouts, pales &, of course, porters – all accompanied by useful tasting notes & available in sample sizes. There’s a vast array of bottled world beers from far-flung places such as Korea, Tahiti & Vietnam, while an extensive food offering includes Irish stew, mussels & beef & stout, as well as crowd-pleasing burgers & pizzas.
