From its chic, palm-fringed terrace beneath the glass roof of the Spitalfields Market extension, to its glossy dark interior, this swish modern venue eschews curry house kitsch. The self-consciously cosmopolitan approach isn’t limited to decor: cocktails, lunchtime bento boxes & the Mövenpick ice cream counter outside all veer from the norm. Nevertheless, these additions merely distract from the fact that Scarlet Dot does, after all, peddle the familiar collection of dhansaks & dopiazas, alongside lamacun (a pizza-style starter) & sharing platters. With chicken tikka masala at £14.95, prices aren’t modest. More ambitious dishes include lagosta lobster in a xacuti sauce with prawns, okra & red onion salad. The short, well-spread wine list runs from sub-£20 Chenin Blanc to white Burgundies to put on expenses.
