The lovable, inviting Windmill offers a welcome as comfy as the well-worn, red-leather sofas you’ll find strewn about the place. Keen-as-mustard staff dash about, although the Englishness of the venue, with its no-nonsense wood floor & furniture, is in direct contrast to the full-on menu, which showcases Italian crowd-pleasers such as spaghetti with garlic, extra-virgin olive oil & chilli, or king prawns wrapped in Parma ham, served with basil mash & salad. As you’d expect, the wine list leans towards Italy, & there’s also a handful of cocktails for those who fancy something with a bit more zing. They don’t normally do food in the evenings, but if you ring ahead, they may be able to rustle something up. Now, that is the sign of a good local pub.
