One of West India Quay’s dockside pub behemoths, Bar 38 (next door to sibling, Via) takes many of its design cues from trendy clubs. Communal loos, some fabulous high-backed booths, sparkling red chandeliers & Venetian-style mirrors lend va-va-voom, though 38 plays the part of a ‘high-street pub’ pretty convincingly too. Sport on the telly, free Wi-Fi & a mainstream menu of burgers, mezze platters, club sandwiches & pasta make it a good place to while away the lunch hour – as does the large terrace in good weather. ‘Buckets of beer’ alongside the likes of draught Magners & Beck’s Vier court a younger crowd who normally upgrade to mojitos, daiquiris & martinis come pay day. There’s a less frenetic bar below stairs, although this is often hired out for private functions.
