The long thin room, decked out in stark black wood, makes an elegant but somewhat unforgiving venue in which to eat Matsuba’s Far Eastern cuisine. Nevertheless, the severity of the surroundings is ameliorated by a warm welcome & sweet staff. The cooking, an amalgam of Japanese classics with Korean overtones, is not West End fashionable, but neither is it priced as such. Treat the place for what it is – a local reliable restaurant catering for a crowd that knows its food. Expect good sushi & sashimi (there’s a sushi bar hidden around the corner), bulgogi & dobin mushi. Bento boxes at lunchtime are also a hit, particularly with local business folk. The one drawback is the language barrier, but the staff usually overcome this with charm.
