More light-hearted than other Middle Eastern restaurants nearby, Mamounia has a ground-floor lounge bar with velveteen-covered walls sitting above a basement dining room where Moroccan musicians perform on a small stage as belly dancers sashay around diners. Menus are split between ‘fusion’, ‘Moroccan’ & ‘Lebanese’ sections, so you could start with grilled squid & chorizo with an avocado salad ahead of a tagine, couscous or lamb cutlets with sauteed baby vegetables & mint pesto; alternatively, a meal could be made up of a variety of mezze. Italy & France bulk out a wine list that starts with a small selection of Lebanese bottles, or there are fruit-based cocktails. Shisha pipe puffers can head outside to a small alfresco area to get their fix.
