‘Sleek, sexy & dramatic’ is how one reader describes this David Collins-designed bar with its purple butterfly motif, chessboard tabletops & horses’ head statuary. The hotel location means that it’s light enough for a lunchtime sip, although the best time to watch mixologists pluck premium spirits from the pagoda-style cabinets is after dark. Rum is a speciality, with 50 exclusive bottles on show – take them straight or in the house punch, which blends Pyrat Pistol with cherry, pineapple & citrus flavours, capped with a Myers/Wray & Nephew float. The rest of the list is equally special, smart & expensive, including some hot tipples that are fantastic to ‘come home to’ in the depths of winter. Food spans tiffin bites, boiled eggs with ‘soldiers’ (add caviar, if you like) & some overpriced themed platters – thank rum for the free nuts.
