Square Meal Review of Sitaaray ?

With as much chutzpah as the flamboyant Bollywood movies that are celebrated here, Sitaaray offers ‘intensely serious food in an atmosphere that doesn’t take itself too seriously’. The colourful mix of Indian movie memorabilia & exuberant dance sequences screened on TVs create a party atmosphere that’s perfect for big groups with something to celebrate. Take a seat in one of the large booths as good-natured staff serve up a seemingly endless assortment of carefully rendered dishes from the ‘unlimited kebabs & curries’ menu (£22.95 per person). Think coriander-spiced lamb kebabs, crispy puris, samosas, & mint-infused fish tikka, backed by assorted naans & parathas, chutneys & creamy dhal. The all-you-can-eat approach should satisfy even the largest appetites, but if you do have room for dessert, the signature carrot halwa is a star performer.

My other half surprised me here for our anniversary. So that’s one reason to be totally in awe of the place, the other is the beauty of the décor. What theme! It almost takes me to the real India, which is typically Bollywood. The food was so tasty. Total Love!

The fragrance of fresh masalas, the cinema effect and the awesome food, is what Sitaaray is for me when I get there for a perfect dinner with friends. Sitaaray made me fall in love with Indian food and culture.Having been brought up in London, I have missed India so much but all that gets compensated when i eat the Indian food here.

We've always enjoyed the food and the ambience of the restaurant but it turned completely sour for us when we made the monumentous mistake of not QUOTING their very SPECIAL rate of £18 for the unlimited kebabs and curries menu and were charged £22.95, their usual rate. Apprently, not everyone is given this discounted rate – it doesn't matter that it is advertised at all places on various websites, because website advertising is nothing really.

Called them 3 times, left a mesage for the manager to call back; did not hear back from them at all and called a fourth time with a very unhelpful, flustred manager on the other end refusing to entertain even the thought of returning back the extra £4.95 charged for a party of 5 people.

    Two more neagative:

    1) The waitress looked like death warmed obver and spoke as such – without opening her mouth more than one milimeter, the result that it was s tirring guessing game as to what was just spoken.

    2) Service charge of a whopping 15% is already added
to the bill despite it being advertised everywhere that it is optional – but ofcourse website advertising does not mean a promise.

They would rather loose customers than keep their promise. Sadly none in our family and friends will go here again.

How can you not like Sitaaray?? – The restaurant is one of a kind, the dedicated bollywood cinema theme is absolutely fantastic! Totally original to other Indian restaurant and still very authentic! I love it! The service is friendly, the managers always make sure we are looked after! The food is simply tasty Indian food – fresh ingredients and generous portions of meat!!

I booked for 8 as a birhtday dinner with friends. I read the reviews and all were very positive so i had high hopes. The restaurant decor is very fun and this makes it very relaxing inside. However, when we arrived for our 8.30pm booking we were told we would not have a table until 9pm. This was ok as we went and had a drink in a bar over the road. Once back, the menu was explained to us and it started well. The food was quite salty but as the courses went on the food became less and less desirable. The main downfall of the evening was the service, or should i say lack of it. We asked for wine and water to begin and we were on our second course before either arrived. We were never given enough glasses and there was never a waitress around to request more water. It says you can re-order as many times as you like but again, as we had no waitress this was never an option. Once finished we sat for 30mins before anyone noticed and agreed to clear our table. At this point they did ask if we wanted anything else and one person asked for more poppodoms but 10mins later we had to ask again for these and then ask a third time for the dips to accompany them! The real annoying part is that as the service charge is automatically included we had to pay over £30 for a terrible service. Although we managed to have an enjoyable evening none of us would reccommend or re-visit this restaurant.
