From the former, chicken pastilla with almonds & cinnamon is a delicate treat, zalouk (pureed aubergine with cumin & coriander) is nicely smoky, while the salad of broad beans, chickpeas, shallots & peppers has a spicy kick of harissa. Main courses, such as sweet & sour chicken tagine with a vibrant mix of sultanas, apricots & dried figs, are well priced at around £10. Among Bouga’s other surprises is a great line-up of zingy cocktails under £5 & a choice of 10 fragrant teas. With friendly, attentive service, it’s no surprise that Crouch Enders have quickly taken to this unpretentious place.
