Square Meal Review of Hat & Feathers Dining Rooms ?

Originally a dapper Victorian pub, the down-at-heel Hat & Feathers was restored to its former glory a few years ago, & despite the odd suspect touch (hedges decorated with fairy lights) it just about looks the part. High ceilings, big windows & a sturdy timber bar make a worthwhile backdrop if you fancy some straightforward pub nosh – say Cumberland sausages with mash & onion gravy or salmon & dill fishcakes with roasted peppers, goats’ cheese & basil pesto. Otherwise, keep it real with chip butties & fishfinger sandwiches washed down with a pint of Shepherd Neame Spitfire, Asahi, Staropramen or Leffe from the line-up of pumps & taps. There’s a small beer garden outside, although it can get raucous & the view isn’t the prettiest around.

A massive let down this place. Not sure what they are trying to do here, but it's not working. There's no atmosphere, and the food is far below the standard that I expected for the money, not to mention the service.. Definitely won't be back.

My colleague and I had lunch at the Hat & Feathers on 3 July 2009. The menu described in the review above is very out of date. It would appear that this place has had a change of management. It currently serves badly cooked barbeque food for £10 (including a bottle of beer or glass of wine). The service was awful. It feels very much like a pub that's about to go out of business.
