Square Meal review of Dark Horse:
If the Dark Horse is a measure of things to come, Camberwell’s gastro scene could be headed for the winners’ enclosure. Gothic chandeliers & massive mirrors can make the young, groovy clientele look ennobled, while accomplished cooking & effortless service from consummate pros should have them feeling entitled. Velvety apple & parsnip soup is an elegant starter, even if it can’t outrun the port rarebit, which, with its dollop of tangy Stilton melted atop a hearty chunk of bread, is a light supper in itself. To follow, pork belly with a paprika-spiced, chorizo-studded, chickpea stew uses the succulent meat’s pillowy fat as a cushion for a slab of crackling. Desserts might include spiced winter fruit crumble. To drink, choose from an interesting wine list, a good selection of beer, or a cocktail line-up of old favourites & new inventions.
