Square Meal review of El Faro:
According to its many fans, the food at El Faro is ‘as close to Spain as you will find on these shores’. Diners can start by choosing from a lengthy list of ‘pica-pica’, Basque-style tapas that might include melting cubes of pork belly with an apricot & thyme confit or traditional patatas bravas festooned with squiggles of creamy aioli & a spicy tomato sauce. Larger mains such as grilled entrecote or roast suckling pig are also available. The ‘excellent service’ & ‘knowledgeable staff’ help keep the dining room buzzing, while the keenly priced Spanish wine list offers bottles from some lesser-known wine-producing regions. The same food is served in a more formal dining room upstairs & outdoor seating is available on the terrace overlooking the dock.
