Square Meal review of Atami:
Hailed by some as ‘the new Nobu’, Atami was ‘rapidly turning into the alternative Channel 4 canteen’ before last year’s change of ownership & chef caused a slip in standards. The once ‘superb’ food now comes in for criticism & with the (still very chic) dining room fast losing buzz, it’s becoming much harder to justify the steep prices. Menus remain largely unchanged & while flavours aren’t quite as vibrant as they once were, there’s still pleasure in signature dishes such as the thinly sliced marble beef with hot oil, tempura chives & ponzu & Chilean sea bass with yuzu truffle sauce. Service, as ever, is friendly if not always professional.
