Square Meal review of Prima:
With its long, limestone-topped bar, pale leather seating & air of elegant spaciousness Prima has quickly found an appreciative public, who also like the relatively straightforward menu. Start with Brixham crab with herb crostini or asparagus with soft poached egg & hollandaise before main courses of rack of lamb with gratin potato & redcurrant jus or perhaps a grilled 8oz fillet steak; the specials include hot & cold sandwiches as well as more substantial starters & mains. Desserts tend towards calorific indulgence – cheesecake, banoffee pie & sticky toffee pudding included. The wine list isn’t long: there’s plenty of Champagne, from a £35.50 Moutard Cuvee Brut Prestige NV to Louis Roederer Cristal 1999 at a more bonus-friendly £215. Reds & whites kick off with sub-£20 house bottles & include New World, French & Spanish offerings, though France dominates. The cocktail list sticks largely to the classics.
