Tucked away it may be, but this newcomer has proved an instant hit with Mayfair locals. As well as a chic ground-floor bar serving well-made cocktails, there’s a dimly lit basement lounge with a late licence, a second-floor private room & a pretty first-floor restaurant, daintily decorated in bright white & butterflies. Food is fusion & is beautifully presented & executed. An indulgent starter of roast foie gras served with a green lentil salad & zapped with herb pesto could be followed by a main course of roast sea bass with artichoke puree & contrastingly cold pickled chanterelles: a stunning combination. Desserts tend to be simple & include a fabulous gingerbread ice-cream. With switched-on, friendly service as part of the package, Mews deserves to become a local institution.
