Square Meal Review of The Dorchester Bar at The Dorchester Hotel ?

Will 2014 be the year the Dorchester bar ditches its gauche, Kryptonite-topped high-backed banquette? We live in hope. In the meantime, consistently superior drinks prepared at its divine mirrored bar compensate for any dodgy design decisions – Champagne teacups on stems are another quirk we could live without. Make ours a naked martini or a ‘timeless classic’ – in a classic glass, if you please. Brooklyn, Manhattan and Bronx are New York sips worth knowing, and we’re also sweet on Mary Pickford (Bacardi, pineapple, Maraschino liqueur and grenadine). Equally comely mixes include a Glenlivet whisky and fig sour, Granny Smith (smashed with Zubrówka vodka) and hibiscus royale – a pretty pink Champagne cocktail. Bar food is quintessential Park Lane pukka, while classy fizz lubricates everyone from princes, potentates, politicos, film stars and gossip column regulars to Joe Bloggs celebrating with his missus.

  1. Clinking China teacups, waiters pushing trolleys. Sky scrapper heels treading on polished marble floors belonging to fashionistas. A beautiful promenade filled with soft leather sofas and luxury furniture. There’s the balcony for eating the finest pastries and drinking afternoon tea. In built shopping arcade with extravagant goods. The Dorchester is one of the most iconic and elegant hotels you can get in London. Once again I was dealing with posh territory, I even turned up nicely dressed to blend in with the 5 star hotels. I had reservations at “The Dorchester bar”, it was one of those James Bond moments, as soon as you enter “Louis XIII D” bottles enclosed in glass cabinets. A Louis XIII D experience will set you for £2k...

  2. I’ve always wanted to stay at The Dorchester, with its history and luxury interior and although I still haven’t managed to stay overnight, I’ve recently had a taster of what the Dorchester has to offer. We decided to go to the bar for a more casual Dorchester experience. Decorated with traditional dark browns and comfy leather seating and with a bar that serves too many drinks to name, you certainly feel part of the luxury...
