Showily propped & artfully lit, yet cavernous & dark, Parker McMillan’s raison d’etre is the live music & DJ sets, without which it can feel rather empty (particularly in the late afternoons), though its nooks & crannies are perfect for big groups to colonise. Classic & more inventive cocktails include the Harlem Blues with Johnny Walker Black Label & apple juice; the wine list is mostly affordable, though there’s vintage Dom Perignon too for groovers with record deals to celebrate. Draught beers include Kronenbourg & San Miguel & there’s Peroni & Singha in bottles. Skewers, platters & chips help soak up the booze, while a small astroturf-covered terrace caters to those nostalgic for the days when jazz clubs were invariably smoke-filled.
