High Victoriana doesn’t come much more opulent than at this splendid example of Imperial swagger in the heart of the Square Mile, where marble, dark wood & the magnificent glass dome create an appropriate backdrop for some determined, yet civilised beer drinking. The food menu majors on pies, with everything from steak & ale to smoked haddock & salmon. Wine choices for those who don’t fancy Fuller’s beers or big-brand lagers are chalked up on a board; the big screen TV adds an oddly contemporary note & customers tend towards the male & mature.
