A genuine slice of old London, these premises have been home to a picture-framer’s shop, ironmonger & brothel over the years, although they now do duty as a family-run tavern, with a low-key vibe & a great selection of beer & pies. Access is via a tiny cobbled alleyway (the charmingly named Percy Passage) & the main bar is the place for pints of London Pride, Seafarers Ale, Aspall’s cider or their gassy cousins. Alternatively, pick something from the familiar international wine list. If your thoughts turn to pies, head upstairs for a formidable home-baked selection ranging from lamb & rosemary to Stilton & mushroom, not to mention seasonal blackboard specials. For afters, ‘ye olde’ spotted dick, treacle sponge or Bramley apple pie should do the trick.
