The Lamb

The Lamb is a survivor: the Luftwaffe were no doubt gunning for this symbol of Merrie England, established in 1729, when they blitzed the nearby Holborn Empire, giving new meaning to the phrase ‘the show bombed’. Beyond its elaborate art-nouveau lantern, hanging baskets, glazed tiles & frosted windows, lies a welcoming leathery interior, the walls covered in stage memorabilia. Supplied by Young’s, the beer is consistently well kept. Order Waggledance or Bombardier & admire the frosted snob screens, which in Victorian times would shield you & your escort from the inquisitive gaze of gossip-mongering neighbours across the horseshoe bar. Food includes good English grub & there’s a cute patio out back for a crafty fag.
