Square Meal review of Barnes Grill:
Barnes folk have really taken to Antony Worrall Thompson’s meat-fest restaurant, with its cowhide lounge bar & chandeliered dining room. The menu revels in its Britishness, espousing its celebrity chef-proprietor’s cause of using fine, mostly organic ingredients & preparing & serving them well. Though the menu centres on well-hung beef, there’s more to it than that – potted shrimps & gravad lax, devilled kidneys & AWT’s own home-grown Middle White pork with apple jelly also feature. The special Mon-Wed menu of deliberately retro food & prices omits the meatiest steaks but is a decent deal at £12.50 for two courses & £14.95 for three. Feast on starters & mains because the puds here are not worth the bother.
