The sophisticated get-up inside bijou Montgomery Place is more like an upmarket hotel bar than a local watering hole – but that's just the way Notting Hill's debonair residents like it. Dark wood stools and tables, a swish metal bar and atmospheric lighting make this a superb spot for expert cocktail sipping. The list comes divided into chapters such as ‘songs of citrus', and it covers everything from vermouths with homemade rhubarb soda to Champagne riffs, rum-based tiki drinks and inspired mixes such as here comes the son (Miller's gin with ruby-red grapefruit and elderflower cordial). American-style bar food provides sociable sustenance in the shape of popcorn prawns, bread-free Montgomery ‘dogs', Idaho potato stacks and braised short-ribs (off the bone) – perfect for grazing and sharing.
