Square Meal review of Papillon:
Since opening in early 2006, Papillon has established itself as a much-loved local. Mellow lighting & smartly dressed tables add to the atmosphere of understated elegance, which is also evident in the cooking – dishes aren’t too fancy, but are beautifully sourced & executed with finesse. Steak tartare has just the right piquancy, the richness of roast duck is cut through with sweet chunks of beetroot, & pan-fried sea bass comes topped with tender ribbons of squid. Strawberry millefeuille provides a delightful finish & there’s something to suit all tastes on the impressive French-dominated wine list, with a number of options by the glass or half bottle. Service is obliging yet unobtrusive, making this a great all-rounder – great for entertaining clients, but also ideal for a romantic rendezvous.
