Square Meal review of Cannizaro House:

A decent dinner on Wimbledon Common was about as hard to find as a Womble until the relaunch of this hotel. The look is still old-fashioned hotel restaurant but the stiffness & formality have dissipated & the food has greatly improved. First courses range from red pepper & goats’ cheese tart to a surprisingly successful seared tuna with piccalilli & balsamic, while mains include fillet of sea bass with spring vegetables & smoked fillet of beef cooked to order & garnished with slow-cooked onions & garlic. Portions are American sized, making the appetising list of desserts utterly redundant. The wine list has an eye on the pockets of wealthy hotel residents, with plenty of top-end offerings, but there’s enough for less than £20 a bottle to make mere mortals feel welcome, too.
