Favela Chic

The improvised scrap wood architecture of Brazil’s hillside shantytowns is buffed up to breathtaking effect at this London outpost of the Paris original. Whether it’s in good taste to recycle Third World poverty as a backdrop for caipirinha quaffing is a moot point, but taken on its own terms it certainly works, with suitably smouldering Latin staff & a short menu that includes the Brazilian favourite, feijoada (meat & bean stew), as well as a few dishes with more questionable South American roots. Beers include Brahma & Super Bock & the weekend queues at the door suggest slum life Shoreditch style has its charms.
