Square Meal Review of Donovan Bar at Brown's Hotel ?

Nothing to do with the floppy-haired 60s folkie, Donovan Bar salutes the iconic fashion snapper whose editorial prints line the walls of this black, white & greige Olga Polizzi/ Bill Amberg-designed revamp of an Edwardian lounge. A novella-sized drinks list features various rummy tipples with names like casino royale & gold finger (Partida añejo, honey syrup & Goldschläger cinnamon schnapps charged with Champagne), although you might like to bamboozle Mr Bond by ordering your martini ‘rested’ (that is, not touched by spoon or shaker). Otherwise order it ‘Churchill’ (the old politico liked his mixes to consist entirely of dry gin, an unopened bottle of vermouth merely waved en passant above the shaker). The bar offers live acoustic performances, plus snacks & sharing plates at average prices for this kind of venue.

The Donovan Bar at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair is cool, stylish and intimate. The walls are adorned with Terence Donovan's iconic black and white prints, which adds a contemporary twist to the history of the surroundings.

A dark, dingy space, with uncomfortable chairs and poor service. Place virtually empty but they still managed to completely forget a cocktail order. Questionable amount of alcohol in the £13 a throw concoctions – certainly didn't appear to be very much. So many better hotel bars in the vicinity. Duke's and Polo at the Mayfair to name but two.
