The restaurant at the Institute of Directors works hard for its regulars, members & non-members alike. With regularly changing menus, weekly jazz nights & live piano music every weekday evening, this grand venue pulls out all the stops to impress. Menus fall between two stools, those of a fine-dining restaurant & a gentlemen’s club. Consequently, it’s no surprise to find tempura prawns with noodles sitting alongside game terrine or brandy-laced shellfish soup, while mains find seared scallops with star anise-scented cauliflower cream in company with Elwy Valley lamb rump or fillet of Oxfordshire beef & haggis Wellington. The dining room’s noble appearance, formally attired waiters & dress code for diners (tie-free is just about acceptable) lend a sense of occasion to proceedings. A separate brasserie opens for a more informal breakfast & lunch service.
