Square Meal review of 116 Pall Mall:
Now that its reservations book is open to Square Meal readers as well as members of the IoD, reports have been coming in of gracious service & a refreshingly unstarchy atmosphere at the dining room of 116 Pall Mall: a surprise, perhaps, given the imposing, Grade I-listed surrounds of heavy carpets, high ceilings & vast framed portraits of military figures. The evening menu is served to the accompaniment of a live piano; dinner might start with foie gras terrine with spiced pear chutney, followed by a loin of Elwy Valley lamb with fondant potato & a selection of simple, seasonal desserts for afters. Summer nights are particularly pleasant as the terrace looks out across private gardens. Note that the dress code forbids jeans & trainers.
