Is it a retro pub? Is it a steakhouse? Actually, The Bountiful Cow is a bit of both. Pitched at the bottom of an ugly tower block, it may not promise much, but once inside, it’s a different story. Dark walls form the backdrop for a gallery of all things cattle-related, with colourful posters depicting cowboys or cuts of meat, & the menu also pays homage to the bountiful bovine, with steaks in pole position ahead of whopping ‘bountyburgers’. Not that it’s all beefy, of course – the kitchen also takes a pubby jaunt from duck rillettes & smoked salmon, via bangers & mash to apple tart or pannacotta with raspberry coulis. Helpful staff wax lyrical about the virtues of steak & can suggest wines from the ultra-compact list.
