The Thomas Cubitt opened two years ago & locals were quick to embrace the place. It’s not hard to see why, what with its cosy pub below, gorgeous dining room above & pavement tables out in the sun. Enjoy the ‘tremendous atmosphere’ of the ‘always busy’ bar or head for the ‘discreet’ upstairs dining room, which has plenty of period touches & subdued lighting. A formal meal might start with seared bluefin tuna on orange & grapefruit salad, then move on to roast saddle of lamb with fried sweetbreads, morel-stuffed lamb shank & pea purée, while the bar menu offers ‘great gastropub food’, including a pie of the day. The wine list has been expertly rendered & competent service is warm & attentive.
