With drinks consultant Tim Oakley now listed as co-owner, what was Liquorish is an altogether sexier proposition thanks to top-flight mixology. Pimped-up classics such as a Junipero dry martini often come with a twist: a shot of Picon Club liqueur is applied to phony negroni and also the house Manhattan (along with Zucca and cardamom bitters), while top tip, Tina, also makes the grade. On the beer front, Bath Ales Gem and Fordham Copperhead (from the USA) are welcome discoveries. Three decent tapas for £10 will satisfy most appetites – perhaps skewers of chicken chorizo and red peppers with satay, cubed onglet and chunky chips or a trio of herby hot dogs. Music is fine tuned for the low-key, design-conscious Spotify generation.
