Press House Wine Bar

This cavernous wine bar is wedged into the vaults below St Bride’s church, once famous as the place where Fleet Street’s journos came to pray. The Grade I-listed edifice (designed by Christopher Wren) still stands, but it’s now populated by City workers who congregate to indulge rather than confess their sinful sides. Empty bottles of Veuve Clicquot & other Champagnes are artistically stacked behind iron cages within the atmospheric, burnt-orange interior, while the monthly changing lunch menu could yield a risotto florentine with spinach, poached egg & parmesan crisp. In the evening, it’s more about grazing than dining, with nibbles including teriyaki chicken skewers. There’s a decent & reasonably priced global wine list.
