Square Meal Review of Keston Lodge ?

Thirsty punters in Angel searching for a buzzing pub, not a bar, should consider this ‘tarted up boozer’ with its vintage leather sofas & ‘small disco’ in the corner. Beer drinkers are kept happy with draught Leffe, Hoegaarden & Amstel in oversized continental glasses, & strawberry Früli straddles the divide between froth & fancy long drinks. The cocktail classics are all present, alongside house specials such as Jack & Jerry’s (Sailor Jerry & Jack Daniels muddled with blackberries, lime & sugar), & between 5pm & 7pm daily it’s cocktail o’clock, when you can buy one, get one for £1. Though food is served every day, most customers are more interested in liquid sustenance – until Sunday, that is, when ‘roasts & records’ brings all the trimmings plus a bloody Mary shot for around a tenner.

I've lived in Islington for many years, I've been to the Keston Lodge on a Sunday afternoon and it was cool for food and atmosphere.

How different it was on a Friday night… it was truly awful. A bar trying desperately to be a nightclub with jumped up, showy, flash upstarts pushing shoving and generally behaving like twits that can't hold their drink. That includes the bar staff who were rude, accused my partner of being on drugs because he complained about waiting 20minutes to be served. He was ignored as the bar 'boy' who served all the ladies first obviously trying to impress/pull and the bar was three people deep.

Its a meat market, if your 18 and that's your thing great, but I wil not be going back again.
