For many years, Weng Wah House has been the Chinese restaurant of choice for Belsize Parkers. Its elegant ground-floor dining room, filled with fish tanks, starched linen & efficient staff, well match this seemly neighbourhood. Lunchtime dim sum sees an array of nimble little dumplings served in steaming bamboo baskets: perhaps seafood rolls with mango, barbecued pork buns, & crystal prawn dumplings. To drink, choose from various leaf teas. The main menu contains the usual wonton soups, spare ribs & roast duck, plus some pricey (but good) seafood specials. On the first floor is a karaoke room, where service can be decidedly uninterested & food (bog-standard Singapore noodles & sweet & sour chicken) seems to provide little more than sustenance for those wanting to hone their X Factor act.
