Square Meal review of The 5th View @ Waterstones:
The ‘view’ over the rooftops of St James’s would be lucky to rate a five out of 10, but cocktails score higher at Waterstone’s 1960s-influenced penthouse lounge: A Bloody Good Bloody Mary is precisely that, while Polish Smile (bison-grass vodka, pressed apple juice & honey) might also describe the service here. A catholic range of beers includes King Cobra, Tsing Tao, Sleemans Honey Brown & a strong cast of Belgians. Over a dozen wines come by the glass, tarts (smoked haddock & chive or pancetta & dolcelatte) are served at lunch & Spanish tapas from 5-9pm. ‘When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading’ quipped British wit, Henry Youngman. Let’s hope for the bookseller’s sake people continue to do both.
