But are the cocktails at this deco/Buddha lounge/late bar any more upmarket? Yes, they are. Pick of the bunch are grasshopper, French 90 (Champagne & brandy, rather than the 75’s gin) & drunken pear – that’s an alco-lassi, not two over-sauced lasses on the razzle. If you’re out to impress, what could be swankier than Champagne & martini flights or (Johnnie Walker) Gold Manhattan at £23? For afternoon tipplers, there’s ‘style & elegance’ to be had in the form of cocktails & cupcakes – those commonplace, pumped-up American versions of the English fairy cake that have outstayed their welcome.
