Possibly the largest remaining traditional grand Mayfair pub, The Audley’s interior typifies a once-commonplace breed, felled by the style bar epidemic. Impressive carved mahogany bar, crimson ceilings, plaster garlands, mottled leather benches & even the patterned Axminster-style carpet are starting to look directional to forward-thinkers. Bombardier, Young’s & London Pride come on tap, while an adequate wine list that doesn’t exceed £16 yields a plummy Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Food is serviceable & service both biddable & brisk.
