Square Meal review of North China:
A restaurant with history, the North China has been a feature of Acton since 1976 & though now run by the son of the original owner, it still carries the influence of father & even grandfather upon it. All the favourites are here, from chicken in cashew nuts to shredded beef with chilli to won ton soup, but there’s plenty besides. Try the double-cooked pork, the sea spice aubergine, shark’s fin soup or, if time & money are on your side, the wonderfully aromatic fresh ginger lobster or a proper Peking duck served in three courses: with pancakes, stir-fried with lettuce wraps & finally as duck soup. The short wine list is decently priced but sake or beer is popular, too. Booking advised.
