The smell of baking bread greets visitors to this cosy Iranian cafe thanks to a tiled tandoor oven just inside the entrance. Located on a quiet street away from the hustle & bustle of Edgware Road, Colbeh is popular with Middle Eastern locals, who come for its authentic Persian food at bargain basement prices. Pickles & dips make up the starters, which are great with freshly baked Persian naan. The mains comprise the usual kebabs & grill platters, but it’s also worth ordering the house special ‘stew of kings’ made from shredded chicken with walnuts, pomegranate & pumpkin. Try the homemade Persian ice-cream flavoured with rose water & pistachio nuts to finish. A bring-your-own alcohol policy makes for a very cheap night out.
