East Dulwich’s beloved Lordship Lane is the site for the fourth branch of The Draft House – a new Mecca for London’s ale lovers. This time around, the deafening acoustics and tight spaces in the multi-level bar/dining room may prove a challenge for sensitive souls. However, beer drinkers can still order third-pint ‘samples’ of countless craft brews, while fried nibbles and plate-sized pork schnitzels provide ample boozy ballast. Food-wise, hamburgers – dubbed ‘the poke’, ‘the smoke’, and ‘the yolk’ depending on their particular garnish – are the highlights on a predominantly blokey menu. Back at the bar, intriguingly named brews such as Bitter and Twisted, Mongozo Coconut and Schremser Bio-Roggenbier offer an accessible introduction for curious gluggers, with knowledgeable staff on hand to talk up each tipple. Slogan posters, vintage adverts and heavy beats complete the offering.
