The decor may be utilitarian & the largely Vietnamese staff may not be entirely fluent in English, but locals keep coming back to Mangosteen. The draw is the authentic, full-flavoured South-East Asian food, which arrives deftly spiced & very fairly priced. Favourite starters include generously portioned salt & chilli squid, & Thai fishcakes with a deliciously crunchy breadcrumb & coconut exterior. To follow, tiger prawn green curry boasts just the right amount of chilli heat, while sea bream in a coconut & lime sauce bursting with flavour is worth double its £12.50 price tag. Look out for the monthly specials featuring more unusual South-East Asian dishes. If you have a sweet tooth, the homemade coconut ice cream with lychees is recommended.
