Square Meal Review of Gaucho Broadgate ?

It might look like a tiny glass cube, but head down into the depths of Gaucho & you’ll find yourself in a sexy, sultry, underground grotto reminiscent of a 70s’ nightclub, with a slightly pokey, glass-walled cigar terrace for recalcitrant puffers. Rich, tasty empanadas or delicate ceviche of lemon sole set the scene for the main event – pampas-reared, properly aged Argentinian beef. Staff bring out the raw cuts on a board to explain the differences in taste & texture – don’t miss the spiral churrasco cuts marinated in garlic, parsley & olive oil. For pud, a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream hits the spot. Gaucho has its own vineyard in Mendoza, & its ‘well-chosen’ Argentinian wine list continues to receive plaudits; expect top-drawer Malbecs & Bonardas, plus Cabernets for the less adventurous.

Gaucho Broadgate is a very odd venue and hard to like!

A glass and concrete “block”, where you decend into a bizarre sight of cow skin covered chairs-fine, suits a good steak house-but with dimmed lighting, candles on the tables and soft music! It was like a macho valentine venue!
    Really odd.

Service was really poor. very attentive but only with the easy bits. I arrived early and sat waiting for my guest, who arrived and was left waiting upstairs, even though I was known to be waiting downstairs! This went on for 15 mins. Not good enough.

After being shown the steaks on offer by someone who clearly had no real idea, we decided toask to share a sirloin, rib eye and fillet. They arrived on individual plates as the concept of “sharing” had been lost between giving our order and haveing it served.
    Basic, dumb error
The steaks looked fine but were very average. The sirolin was tough, the fillet tasteless and the rib-eye average.
    Poor.
The cost simply did not justify the venue, food or service, I will never go again.
