Square Meal review of The Bar at The Courthouse Hotel Kempinski:
The term ‘lock-in’ takes on a different meaning at this bar, on the site of the former magistrates’ court that’s now part of the swish Courthouse Hotel Kempinski. The Courthouse’s old holding cells (complete with loos as water features) accommodated Oscar Wilde & Johnny Rotten in their time & can be booked for parties – though anything more than four people & you’ll be clamouring for solitary confinement. In the main bar – a slightly claustrophobic windowless box for added authenticity – select from a range of sophisticated cocktails such as Strawberry & Chilli Martini, Peach & Almond Bellini or a Luxury Mojito topped with Champagne. House fizz is Moet at £45, a dozen wines come by the glass & snacks include crab cakes, burgers, duck spring rolls, a club sandwich & calamari rings – up on a charge of a salt & battery, we hear.
